In our efforts to find the easiest entry-point into Le Marche, we flew into Bologna. Google Earth clocked an hour-and-a-half ride to Fossombrone. (Flying into Rome is the default entry-point, but requires dealing with the mobs at the gates, the mobs at the domestic terminal, the mobs at the car rentals. Never mind the chaos and the Italian drivers on the roads that snake through the old city.) What we learned though was that in August, Bologna is at the center of beach-traffic. (It was the Long Island Expressway in central Italy. Horror! In early August we got crushed into the traffic making its turtle-way to Rimini. In mid-August we got crushed into the traffic returning home from the beaches on the Adriatic.) Horror 2.
