the museums - san nicola

The church of San Nicola sits in the middle of Corte. And I could not situate it in my mind until last summer. As a matter of fact, the first pic on the left is one I've used on my desktop for years. It's not mine, but I've always liked it. And now I understand where the church is in relation to other sites in Corte. (The church is in front of the house I was born in.)

I managed to get into the chapel, because the group in the second pic was getting ready to go in and say the rosary. (It turns out that the woman, 4th from left, was Mafalda's friend and her mother and her brother baptized me. It was the first of two baptisms. I was very sick when I was born and my mother was afraid I would not live, so they did a hasty first baptism. When I got better, they re-baptized me.)

It was a great surprise to walk in and find this absolutely beautiful ceiling of Giotto-blue. And the frescoes in the sanctuary were probably the most beautiful I found anywhere in Aprigliano. The last pic is of the corpus that once was under glass, under the main altar of San Leonardo - the main church of Corte.
