phipps - the lesson

This set of photographs was taken on January 19, 2009. I was at Phipps Conservatory with Scott Davidson for our second lesson. The lesson included the use of different reflectors. All but two of the images in this set were shot with a black reflector behind the flower.

Another focus of the lessor was to shoot everything somewhat "dark". The second image is the only over-exposed photo. I think it still works, because of the strong color of the orchid. The over-exposure is the windows of the greenhouse. The vertical grays are the metal struts.

The reflector eliminates the natural background; it takes the image out of its environment and makes it artificial.
