the museums - madonna delle timpe
My mother always talks about the chapel of La Madonna delled Timpe. She says that on her way back from the fields, she would stop and rest under the portico of the small church. In the late 40's early 50's the area around the chapel was filled with vineyards and orchards. Also, at that time there was no statue only a painting of La Madonna.
I had never been to the small chapel on the outskirts of Corte. I grew up further up the mountain in Santo Stefano and ours was La Madonna di Portosalvo. My first visit to the chapel was with Maria Lucente - my mother's cousin. She's the one with the walking stick and then at the door. (I have the key she's turning and am givining it to my mother as a Christmas gift.) We walked in the early afternoon sun, talking and laughing on our way to visit La Madonna.
Because my relatives live in Corte and because it was the time of the rosary at La Madonna,
I got to go along on the morning rosary-walk. The best part of the 6:00 am rosary-walk was the coffee after the service.
There we were in the mountains, outside the chapel having sweetened espresso in small plastic cups.
