shadows - one

The first time I took one of these images it was a novelty. There I was standing in front of a polished black granite grave-marker and I noticed my reflection in the stone. I shot the image. I did this again when I was shooting at the mauseleum in Homewood Cemetery. This time is was pink marble and the setting sun was behind me.

The setup became a way of including myself in the photograph without posing or shooting a head-shot. The shadow/reflection has become something I'm comfortable with and am willing to do more of. It's a representation rather than an image, and I like the idea of a representation of me. The shadow/reflection also allows the rest of the environment to be part of the image. It place the shadow in context making me part of the whole.

In these eight images the shadow/reflection is always in a grave-marker and I like that. The only image that does not fit this pattern is the one where the shadow is on the tree trunk. My goal is to explore this shadow/reflection in other environments besides cemeteries. As I go forward, I need to think through the various scenes that will lend themselves to a shadow/reflection of the photographer. (The thumbnail points to the large image.)
