north side

The North Side, now known as the North Shore, was at one time the City of Allegheny. Pittsburgh annexed it in 1907.

To locals it will remain the North Side. The North Shore section is one of the only flat areas in Pittsburgh. In a city of ravines and hillsides, the North Shore has perpendicular streets and housing reminiscent of New York City. Where much of Pittsburgh housing is in a 1930/1940 setting the North Side has Civil War, Federal and Victorian housing. It is the most gentrified neighborhood in Pittsburgh.

From the North Side, downtown Pittsburgh acts as a backdrop to PNC Park and Heinz Field. As a matter of fact, local refer to this area of the North Side as the stadium district. And for those of us who live here, we never lose electrical power, because we are on the backbone that feeds the Steelers' and the Pirates' stadiums.
