from my window
In the War Streets, spring 2009 has been free of frost and therefore the neighborhood is in bloom. These eight pictures were taken from my front window. The crab apple tree, in my neighbor's yard, hardly ever gets to flower. The cold weather kills the blooms and all we usually see is the ground littered white.
I've been in the War Streets 20 years and the area has finally reached the tipping point. All the rehabbing, all the planting, all the street renovations are finally done to the point where the area looks good. The urban deterioration is now overshadowed by the renovations.
April has brought spectacular spring weather. The forsythia and the wild almond line the neighborhood streets. The last two pictures are of Wild Almond on Resaca Place. Magnolias filled back-yards with their sickly pink blossoms and crocus, daffodils and tulips are everywhere. (The thumbnail points to the large image.)
